Workshop, Amsterdam, 27-29 September 2006
This workshop aims to focus attention on challenges posed to ethnographic methods by the new digital and electronic media. It will be of interest to scholars engaged in ethnographic research which touches on digital media as well as other social scientists studying globalization and cultural change, digital communication, or cultures of digital media. The workshop forms part of the ongoing programme of the Virtual Knowledge Studio to study and stimulate new research practices in the humanities and social sciences. The organising committee is made up of Christine Hine (U. of Surrey), Marjolein van Asselt (U. of Maastricht), Anne Beaulieu and Ernst Thoutenhoofd (VKS-KNAW). This event is funded by a conference grant from the KNAW and by the VKS.

The registration fee is 80 euros (50 euros for post-graduate students, AOIS Masters/PhD students), and includes lunches, breaks and an opening reception. Once Jeannette has confirmed that you have a place, we ask that you pay the registration fee in advance of the workshop (see the payment information below). We will send you a confirmation of your registration once your payment has been received.
In addition, a conference dinner is planned for the Thursday evening. Please make sure that you reserve a place for the conference dinner in your email to Jeannette before September, since that is when the number of guests has to be confirmed with the restaurant. The estimated cost for this dinner is 42 euros (and likely to be 35 euros for students). You should not include this cost in your registration fee payment. We will confirm the exact cost of the dinner on your arrival, and ask that you in turn confirm your reservation and pay in cash at the registration desk.
